When Jules BOURGEAT first opened the doors of his workshop in Morez, the European eyewear industry was very different from what it is today. At that time, the Jura valley in France was a hub of activity, with hundreds of small companies producing top-quality eyewear frames. Despite the challenges posed by the influx of overseas products in recent decades, BOURGEAT was one of the few businesses that managed to survive. As the tides are turning and European manufacturing is being sought after again, we are offering more than 140 years of experience in making eyewear frames the way they should be made.

Team

Our team is made up of individuals from a wide range of ages, with our most senior member being born in 1949 and our youngest in 1993. We believe in combining the knowledge and experience gained through years of practice with fresh curiosity and a constant questioning of techniques and processes. Our shared passion for eyewear and the mountains is what brings us together, and if it weren't for this, we might have all become painters.

Harry Bessis

CEO

Harry is a passionate entrepreneur with a proven track record of establishing businesses, making him the core asset of our team. As a trained optician himself, he has been involved in the industry for more than 15 years. Harry acquired Maison BOURGEAT in 2016 and rebuilt its production capacity, as well as its financial structure. After a period of reorganisation, he reopened the doors of one of the most exciting eyewear gems in the industry.

Yair neuman

Creative Director

Yair’s notable work in the field of sustainable eyewear design started over a decade ago. He is the inventor of DELEREX®, a material made from 100% recycled demo lenses, and the founder and inventor of Wires Glasses.

Yair has designed collections for several brands in the UK and Italy before taking on the creative director role at BOURGEAT.

Florent Rabut

Industrial Director

Florent has a strong background in mechanical engineering and has previously led several eyewear production facilities in the country. He has developed products for some of the finest brands in France and Belgium before joining BOURGEAT. Currently, he is overseeing all industrial areas and leading our production site.

Bérengère Evain

Bespoke master

With 15 years of experience in the field of optics, Bérengère is an accomplished master-maker and an optician by training. She made history by becoming the first female optician to win the title of Meilleur Ouvrier de France in eyewear. She leads our bespoke service, crafting frames from acetate and horn.

Fabien Haenlin

Automation leader

A fellow mountaineer from the neighboring county of Alsace, Fabien oversees all things CNC at Atelier Bourgeat. His automated 5-axis tools produce the sleekest results when it comes to machining fronts and shooting wire cores in acetate.

Pierre Hibon

Workshop leader

Born in the Jura and crafting eyewear since the 1960s, Pierre has become one of the most experienced professionals in the entire region. He joined the house of BOURGEAT in 1975 and currently leads the metal workshop. Pierre also teaches at the Victor Berard optical school, and during winter, he can still be seen on the slopes with his skiing pupils.
